Stockport County Football Club is a professional association football club based in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. The team competes in EFL League One , the third tier of the English football league system , after winning the 2023–24 EFL League Two title.
The stadium was built in 1891 for rugby league club Stockport RFC. [4] Stockport County FC moved there from Green Lane in 1902, needing to find a bigger stadium to play in following their entrance into the Football League two years earlier. Stockport County's first game at Edgeley Park was a 1–1 draw against Gainsborough Trinity in 1902.
During the early part of the 1908–09 season, the Stockport County board issued a prospectus for the club to become a 'limited liability company' which was confirmed in October 1908. [21] [22] Stockport remained in the Second Division of the Football League for seven years until the 1912–13 season, when they again had to seek re-election.
The club first participated in the EFL Trophy in 1983 when it was named the Associate Members' Cup; they were the runners-up in 1992 and 1993. Stockport entered four editions of the Football League Third Division North Cup between 1933 and 1937, winning the trophy in the 1934–35 season

In addition to the domestic league, the club would also participate in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the EFL Trophy.
