Volvo produced trucks as White and Autocar through the 1980s, while Western Star continued independently in Canada and the United States, although Volvo-White–produced high cab over engine models were purchased and rebadged Western Star for sale in the Canadian market through the early 1990s.
White Western Star trucks in that era typically used cabs from its sister company, Autocar. Western Star production was moved to Ogden, Utah, but the brand was not included in the 1981 sale of White's truck business to Volvo, instead being sold to Bow Valley Resources and Nova Corporation, each owning 50%. The company was founded in Mississauga in 1975 as Ontario Bus and Truck, Inc., [2] [3] a private company led by Arnold Wollschlaeger. [4] It was renamed Ontario Bus Industries (OBI) in 1977 and introduced its first prototype bus in 1978, under the model name Orion I. [ 2 ] Don Sheardown purchased the company from Wollschlaeger's estate in 1979.

The V/Line RTL class is a road-rail locomotive, capable of operating on both road and rail.It was basically a truck with retractable rail wheels. Built by Western Star Trucks in the United States, the rail equipment was provided by Brandt Industries of Canada.
The first new trucks since the war-era D/K/KB models, they introduced a cab with a one-piece curved windshield that continued in service until 1971. They were also the first trucks with the Raymond Loewy "IH" insignia that was used into the 1970s. All types of bodies were used, models above the 170 were available as semi-tractors.
