On 20 February 2024, Thai Airways announced an order for forty-five Boeing 787-9s directly from Boeing along with additional options for a further 45 aircraft. Those options are switchable to the larger Boeing 787-10 or the Boeing 777X series, as the airline looks to modernise and grow its widebody fleet and international network.
