The International Imitation Hemingway Competition, also known as the Bad Hemingway Contest, was an annual writing competition begun in Century City, California.Started in 1977 as a "promotional gag", [1] and held for nearly thirty years, the contest pays mock homage to Ernest Hemingway by encouraging authors to submit a 'really good page of really bad Hemingway' in a Hemingway-esque style.
The Hemingway Hoax is a 1990 short novel by science fiction writer Joe Haldeman. It weaves together a story of an attempt to produce a fake Ernest Hemingway manuscript with themes concerning time travel and parallel worlds. A shorter version of the book won both a Hugo Award and a Nebula Award for Best Novella in 1991 (for stories in 1990). [1] [2]
The claim of Hemingway's authorship originates in an unsubstantiated anecdote about a wager among him and other writers.
