Housatonic is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Great Barrington in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,109 at the 2010 census. [2] It was named after the Housatonic River. [3]
Among the earliest estates was one built by New York City banker, industrialist and art patron David Leavitt, who built an elaborate 300-acre (1.2 km 2) estate, and was soon followed by those of his sons nearby. [6] [7] Leavitt was instrumental in the development of the local Housatonic Railroad, serving as its president.

The Housatonic Congregational Church is a historic church building at 1089 Main Street in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Built in 1892 it is a prominent local example of Queen Anne Revival architecture, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. [1] It is now home to the Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire.
