The Coggins test (agar immunodiffusion) is a sensitive diagnostic test for equine infectious anemia developed by Dr. Leroy Coggins in the 1970s. Currently, the US does not have an eradication program due to the low rate of incidence.
Leroy Coggins (1932–2013) was a virologist who developed tests for African swine fever and equine infectious anemia. The latter is now known as the Coggins Test and a "negative Coggins" is commonly required when horses are sold or transported in the US.

The direct Coombs test is used to detect antibodies or complement proteins attached to the surface of red blood cells.
