The .250-3000 Savage / 6.5x48mm (also known as the .250 Savage) is a rifle cartridge created by Charles Newton in 1915. It was designed to be used in the Savage Model 99 hammerless lever action rifle .
Made in .250-3000 Savage, .300 Savage, .303 Savage, .30-30 Winchester and .22 Savage High power from 1923 to 1940. The 99H has a curved, carbine-style buttplate and later models had a barrel band and a ramp front sight. 99K: Features an engraved receiver, tang sight, and a premium non-Monte Carlo walnut stock.

Savage can convert most of its products to left-handed versions because most of its receivers, bolt releases, and safeties are designed symmetrically. Savage can easily convert its products' designs by changing the bolt assembly and moving the ejection port to the opposite side, but most of its competitors have to design completely new receivers.
Charles Newton (1868–1932) was an American lawyer and firearm enthusiast known for his experiments with cartridge design which led to the creation of the .22 Savage Hi-Power rifle cartridge which was adopted by the Savage Arms as a commercial firearm cartridge. This success was soon followed by the design of the .250-3000 Savage.
