Shawano County (/ ˈ ʃ ɔː n oʊ / ⓘ SHAW-noh; [2] originally Shawanaw County) is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census , the population was 40,881. [ 1 ] Its county seat is Shawano .
The controversies caused the Shawano County Republican Party to censure Schmidt and coalesce around a write-in campaign for his Republican primary rival, businessman Dean Neubert. The censure was backed by Republican county officeholders, including the district attorney, sheriff, and clerk of courts, who all said they could not support Schmidt.
Earl William Schmidt (March 11, 1936 – July 14, 2024) was an American lawyer, farmer, politician, and judge. He served nearly 20 years (1982–2002) as a Wisconsin Circuit Court Judge in the Shawano–Menominee circuit, and was Chief Judge of the 9th District of Wisconsin Circuit Courts from 1992 through 1998.
