The College of Arts and Sciences (A&S) is the liberal arts and sciences unit of the University of Kentucky, located in Lexington, Kentucky.It is primarily divided [clarification needed] between the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and offers more than thirty degree options for both undergraduate and graduate students.
In 1908 President James K. Patterson recommended the establishment of a separate Department of Journalism to support the growth of interest in journalism at the college. Three years later, in 1911, the school began offering Library Science Education starting with its first course in "Library Training," offered through the English Department.
In 2018, the college hired Rudolph G. Buchheit from the College of Engineering at Ohio State to serve as dean. On May 1, 2023, University President Eli Capilouto announced that Stanley Pigman and his wife Karen, would be donating $34.5 million to the college of engineering and would be renamed Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering.
