The State Library of Ohio is a state agency that provides services to state government and all types of libraries to ensure that all Ohio residents, rich or poor, rural or urban, receive the best possible library service and are able to engage in lifelong learning which strengthens the economic health of Ohio.
Since its founding, the library has occupied several locations, including its current location at Eighth Street and Vine Street. [15] The library collection was originally housed in the Central School on the now defunct Longworth Street. In 1856, the library was moved to the second floor of the Ohio Mechanics' Institute.
The Center stayed at the location until 1980. The State Library of Ohio leased 13,252 square feet (1,231.2 m 2) of office and warehouse space located on South State Route 821. In 1991 the State Library of Ohio purchased the leased property. The center was considered a "strange library" because it was not a "walk-in" type of library.
