Lewistown Area High School was founded in September 1976 and was one of two high schools in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. It served residents of the Borough of Lewistown and communities to the borough's south and west.
Mifflin County High School is a mid sized, rural public high school. It is the sole high school operated by the Mifflin County School District . The school was established in 2011, by the merging of the district's two former high schools (Indian Valley High School and Lewistown Area ).
The high schools saw the first change. 10th through 12th graders at Indian Valley High and Lewistown Area High were placed at the new Mifflin County High School for the 2011-12 school year. Five schools were closed and the former Indian Valley and Lewistown Middle Schools were retrofitted to serve students in grades 4-5.
