In the city of Serres there is the Technological Educational Institution (TEI) of Central Macedonia. It has more than 14.000 bachelor and master students, also three faculties and even more departments. In autumn 2012 there operated (for first time) two master programmes in English (MBA, MSc) and in 2013 a third one was added (MSc).
During 2019, the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki was merged with the International University of Greece, and the Technological Educational Institutions of Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace to form the new International Hellenic University (www.ihu.gr).
The university's structure was reformed in 2019, now incorporating the three TEIs from Northern Greece (the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, the TEI of Central Macedonia and the TEI of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace).
