The Botanist is a dry gin made by the Bruichladdich Distillery in Islay, Scotland. It is one of two gins made on the island and is known for its hand-foraged botanicals. [1] The name of the gin was inspired by two local botanists who helped develop the recipe for the gin alongside former Master Distiller, Jim McEwan. [2]
Gin is a juniper-flavoured spirit made not via the redistillation of botanicals, but by simply adding approved natural flavouring substances to a neutral spirit of agricultural origin. The predominant flavour must be juniper. Minimum bottled strength is 37.5% ABV.
Tanqueray London dry gin is made by four time distilled grain, with select botanicals added during the second distillation. While the Tanqueray recipe is a closely guarded trade secret , it is known to contain four botanicals: juniper , coriander , angelica root and liquorice , the same four botanicals from the original recipe.
