Franz Josef Bucher [1] (17 January 1834 – 6 October 1906) was a Swiss business magnate, politician and patron who built his wealth in hotels and railroads. [2] Bucher established the Bürgenstock hotel complex and was the owner and patron of Europe's largest hotel company in the 19th century.
The Hotel takes its name from the nearby Helmhaus. In the history books the building was first mentioned as inn in 1356 under the name "Hie zum Rosslyn" (Hier zum Rössli). It was a fiefdom of the Fraumünster Abbey. The owner was staying in Zurich on orders of the Abbot of Einsiedeln.
