As of February 2021, German low-cost carrier Eurowings serves the following destinations throughout Africa, Asia and Europe. [ 1 ] In October 2015, Eurowings began to serve several destinations formerly served by the Germanwings brand. [ 2 ]
Eurowings GmbH is a German low-cost carrier [4] headquartered in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, [3] [5] and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group.Founded in 1996, it serves a network of domestic and European destinations and maintains bases at several airports throughout Germany, Austria, Kosovo and the Czech Republic.

Since November 2016 the airport has been named after the former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt. It is located 8.5 km (5.3 mi) north [2] of the city centre in the Fuhlsbüttel quarter and serves as a hub for Eurowings and focus city for Condor. It was formerly named Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel Airport, a name still frequently used.
In 2024, the airport handled 33.3 million passengers, making it the third busiest airport in Spain, after Madrid–Barajas and Barcelona–El Prat; and the fourteenth in Europe. [4] The airport is the main base for the Spanish carrier Air Europa and also a focus airport for Eurowings, EasyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair and Vueling.
It is a hub for Eurowings and a focus city for several more airlines. The airport has three passenger terminals and two runways and can handle wide-body aircraft up to the Airbus A380. [4] Düsseldorf Airport serves almost every country in Europe and some destinations in Africa, the Middle East and North America.
