About as reliable as Rotten Tomatoes. They tell you what a lot of other people like, but they won't tell you what you like. It's a good aggregator - the rubric is based on (from most important to least) 1) professional reviews, particularly comparison reviews 2) quality surveys, 3) safety rankings, and 4) Awards.
Well normally Volkswagen is close to the bottom on those reviews. But mine has been rock solid (apart from an ac unit that needs recharging) for about 7 years. And I drive it really hard. Though I've been told I found a diamond. I'd trust those web sites to get an overall feel of what brands to avoid.
Different ranking methodologies. Also, global rankings aren't really that useful and QS is like the least regarded one. People generally just ignore QS global rankings. Not that US News Global one is any better but the QS ones don't have a good reputation even inside academia. Honestly speaking, the global rankings are pretty meaningless.

Harvard at 4 and Duke above Columbia feel totally zany to me. No, USNews is a joke at this point. I don’t know anyone who considers US News rankings legit anymore. Since about 2021, many schools stopped providing certain info to them and it essentially plunged the the rankings into the chaotic mess you see today.
