Siam station is one of four BTS stations utilising an island platform, the other being Samrong, Wat Phra Sri Mahathat and Ha Yaek Lat Phrao, and is the only station on the Silom line to feature an island platform. At Siam, this is to facilitate transfer between lines.
There is a plan to extend Sukhumvit Line from Khu Khot Station eastwards for 7.8 km (4.8 mi), including four additional stations: Khlong Sam, Khlong Si, Khlong Ha, and Eastern Ring Road-Lam Luk Ka. This extension has been suspended indefinitely until clarity is reached regarding passenger guarantees.
This level is dedicated to the platforms and rails. Most stations adopt a side platform layout, with the notable exceptions of Siam Station, Ha Yaek Lat Phrao Station, and Samrong, which utilize island platforms. Siam Station features island platforms to enable easy cross-platform interchange between the two lines of the system.
Instead of turning left at the Silom-Naradhiwas junction, the line went straight. After exiting BTS S4 station, the line turned left at the Surasak junction, then right at the Sathorn-Surasak junction, continuing for 500 meters and terminating at BTS S5 station. The depot for both lines was initially located at Lumphini Park.

The station is located on Rama I Road to the west of Pathum Wan intersection, where the National Stadium, MBK Center, Siam Discovery Center, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and Siam Square are situated and all linked to the station by skybridge. It is also within walking distance of Siam Center and Siam Paragon, which are located at Siam station.
When completed, it will connect Krung Thon Buri BTS station with Prajadhipok Road in Thon Buri District for a total distance of 2.68 km (1.67 mi). The Gold Line is operated by Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTSC) under a 30-year contract. The BTSC also operates the BTS Skytrain. A flat fare of 16 Baht is charged.
