Wesley Reid Scantlin (born June 9, 1972) [1] is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and only constant member of rock band Puddle of Mudd . He was named one of the "Top 100 Heavy Metal Vocalists" by Hit Parader .
Puddle of Mudd was formed in 1992 in Kansas City by Wes Scantlin (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Jimmy Allen (lead guitar), Sean Sammon (bass), and Kenny Burkitt (drums). [Note 1] According to Scantlin, the band name was inspired by practicing next to the Missouri river levee, which often inundated the band's practice space, but never ruined their equipment since they were on the second floor.
Puddle of Mudd played small shows in the Kansas City area for most of the 1990s with little mainstream success. [3] However, singer Wes Scantlin got a demo tape to Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst when Limp Bizkit were in town on October 12, 1999, on the Family Values Tour, and Durst's label Flawless Records signed him to a recording contract.
