The McDannald Homestead was a house in Columbus, Ohio. It was built c. 1850 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The house was one of the largest and best preserved rural residential buildings in Franklin County. [1] [2] The house was a sanctuary stop on the Underground Railroad.

In 1802, Dayton sold the land to John Hunter and the land remained in this family until at least 1826. At this time, which was after John's passing, the Hunter family partitioned the land and there were several ownership changes until 1852. At this time, the land was conveyed to William and Anne Dennison by Anne's parents, Hannah and William Neil.
The company established one of the first zoos in Columbus, known as "The Zoo", that failed after only five months, opening in May and closing in November of 1905. In 1906, Joseph A. Jeffrey acquired the land, and created a suburban estate named "Beechwalde". He built the two oldest houses in the district. [2]
Prior to 1840, a log cabin existed on the property. This farm house built was built with clay found on the land and still stands on the end of Park Street on what is now Haughn Road. [2] [3] The last descendent of the family, Ruth V. Jividen, died on April 14, 2014, at the age of 98. [4]
