Cattaraugus County was formed in 1808, split off from Genesee County. At first there was no county government due to the sparse population. From 1812 to 1814, Cattaraugus County was incorporated in Allegany County; from 1814 to 1817, records of the county were divided between Belmont (Allegany County) and Buffalo (then in Niagara County).
For routes that enter such municipalities, county maintenance (and the route number) usually stops at the municipal border, with the exceptions of CR 4, which enters the village of Gowanda, and CR 12, which does enter the village of Cattaraugus. Every town in Cattaraugus County except for Red House has at least one county route within its borders.
The creek's drainage covers much of southeastern Chautauqua County, New York, and western Cattaraugus County, New York. [3] Farmersville is located in northeastern Cattaraugus County. The eastern town line is the border of Allegany County.
