The Westerville Public Library is a public library that serves the community of Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. As a school district library, its geographic boundaries are defined by the Westerville City School District which is located in both Franklin County and Delaware County .
The library was designed by Philip Johnson as part of a three building project on campus. [3] The newly constructed library opened in January 3rd, 1993. [ 4 ] In 2011, Music and dance collections were added to the library's collection which resulted in it being renamed 18th Avenue Library.
The Columbus Public Library and Reading Room was opened on March 4, 1873, in the reading room on the first floor of City Hall, with a collection of 1,500 books. [ 5 ] These included 1,200 from the Columbus Athenaeum (1853-1872), [ 6 ] 358 from Columbus's high school library, and 33 from its horticultural society. [ 7 ]
It is the university's largest library and houses its main stacks, special collections, rare books and manuscripts, and many departmental subject libraries. The library was originally built in 1912, and was renovated in 1951, 1977, and 2009. It is named in honor of the university's fifth president, William Oxley Thompson.
Formerly known as the Cartoon Research Library and the Cartoon Library & Museum, it holds the world's largest and most comprehensive academic research facility documenting and displaying original and printed comic strips, editorial cartoons, and cartoon art. [62] Many other libraries, including the Chicago Public Library and Washington DC's MLK Library now offer 3D printing, print presses, rapid prototyping and manufacturing services to patrons.
