AFI (abbreviation for A Fire Inside) [a] is an American rock band from Ukiah, California, formed in 1991. Since 1998, it consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok , drummer and backing vocalist Adam Carson , bassist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Hunter Burgan , and guitarist, backing vocalist and keyboardist Jade Puget . He was the drummer of the Nevada City, California, band, Badical Turbo Radness (BTR) in the mid 1990s. He has also played drums for the Eyeliners, Gardening, Not Architecture, F-Minus (one show), and the Halo Friendlies on tour. Hunter was featured on Tegan and Sara's 2007 album, The Con, playing bass on the songs written by Tegan.

Commercially, AFI was the band's most successful domestic album since Decemberunderground, debuting at number 5 on the Billboard 200, with 29,000 equivalent music units moved. It was the band's third album to debut in the top five in the Billboard 200, and tied with Sing the Sorrow as the second highest debut album for AFI in the United States.
Following the touring cycle for 2006's Decemberunderground, AFI spent two years writing and recording their next album [6] while also working on a number of side projects: bassist Hunter Burgan started Hunter Revenge and briefly reunited with his old band The Force, while singer Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget recorded and performed as the electronic act Blaqk Audio.
