[2] Years 7 to 11 are boys-only, while sixth form classes are mixed. The school generally ranks among the best-performing in the county.
NSB was formed in 2005 with the merger of Ascham House School and Newlands Preparatory School. [2] Chris Hutchinson was appointed Headmaster of NSB in 2007. Walker Riverside Academy is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in the Walker area of Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England. [2]The school was previously granted specialist status as a Technology College, later also as an Arts College. [3]
The joint sixth form was in operation from the autumn of 1983. [49] [50] The arrangement allows for students to take sixth form courses at any of the three schools regardless of which one they are based at, maximising the options available to them, avoiding duplication and maximising efficiency in course provision. [51]
School curriculum includes GCSEs, NVQs and ASDAN courses. [4] The school previously had a partnership with Brigg Sixth Form (which includes Sir John Nelthorpe School and The Vale Academy) to offer a wider range of sixth form courses over the three school sites. However Baysgarth School is no longer part of this consortium.
