Westroads Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Omaha, Nebraska at the intersection of 100th and Dodge Streets (U.S. Route 6). It is the largest mall in Nebraska. [2] The mall's anchor stores are The Container Store, Von Maur, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dillard's, and AMC Theatres.
Developed by the Brandeis Investment Corp., Southroads opened in 1966 with an Omaha-based department store, Brandeis, and JCPenney as anchors. The mall has 500,000 square feet (46,000 m 2) of retail space, which was modeled after the success of Omaha's Crossroads Mall, which was also developed by Brandeis.
The department store announced plans in February to close 130 to 140 locations in the coming months, or about 13 percent of stores. JCPenney is shuttering 140 locations -- See if your store is at risk
In 2019, a The Rush Market Furniture Store assumed the vacant Younkers space. [16] Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the occupancy rate has declined to 79%, as of October 2020. [17] The mall in April 2021 was sold for $7.5 million to the Kohan Retail Investment Group. [18] In October 2023, the Oak View Mall was put up for sale.
The Honolulu store was located at Ala Moana Center, and closed in 2003, along with all remaining locations in the state, making Hawaii the only U.S. state to not currently have a JCPenney store. The Penney store at Plaza Las Américas mall in San Juan, Puerto Rico , which opened in 1968, featured three levels and 261,500 square feet (24,290 m 2 ).
Lazarus-Macy’s became Macy’s in March 2005. In 2006, due to the Federated-May merger, the Kaufmann's store was renamed Macy's at Hayden Run. As of October 2006 there were two Macy's located at the mall, Macy's at Tuttle Crossing (the original Lazarus store) and Macy's at Hayden Run (the former Marshall Field's/Kaufmann's) until March 2017.
