The second edition of Encyclopaedia of Islam (EI2) was begun in 1954 and completed in 2005 (several indexes to be published until 2007); it is published by the Dutch academic publisher Brill and is available in English and French.
The New Encyclopedia of Islam is a revised edition of the Concise Encyclopedia of Islam by Cyril Glassé, published in 1989 (2nd ed. 1991, revised ed. 2001) with Stacey International and AltaMira Press. [1] It is not to be confused with the Encyclopaedia of Islam.
