It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1971 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
Hannah died at age 79 on August 16, 1904, at his home in Traverse City, after suffering a stroke. His funeral took place on August 25, and was buried at Traverse City's Oakwood Cemetery. After his death, his son Julius took over operations of the family company. Hannah's name can still be found throughout the Traverse City area.
