Yamashita was a member of the band Sugar Babe [18] with musicians Taeko Onuki and Kunio Muramatsu, who released their only album Songs in 1975. [19] [1] After the group disbanded in 1976, Yamashita signed to RCA and launched his solo career, releasing the album Circus Town the same year.
In 1994, Sugar Babe's album "Songs " containing the original mix was released for the first time in CD. Yamashita also held a live performance titled "TATSURO YAMASHITA Sings SUGAR BABE" on that same year in which My Sugar Babe was performed live as the last song of the performance. Daydream is a song written by Minako Yoshida.
Following the album's release, the song "My Sugar Babe" (ode to the band he formerly fronted) was issued as a single. It was featured as a theme song for the television drama Keishi-K starring and directed by Shintaro Katsu and aired on NTV in Autumn 1980. Yamashita composed the entire background music used on the TV series.
It was difficult to plan for the next album, but his band continued to improve as they performed live. With the success of his previous album, Yamashita said, "This album finally fulfills my dream from the time of Sugar Babe, I wanted to record as much as I wanted without worrying about budget and time".
