The dance halls of Jamaica in the 1950s and 1960s were home to public dances usually targeted at younger patrons. Sound system operators had big home-made audio systems (often housed in the flat bed of a pickup truck), spinning records from popular American rhythm and blues musicians and Jamaican ska and rocksteady performers.

Josey Wales OD (born Joseph Winston Sterling [c], October 9, 1958, in St. Mary, Jamaica) is a Jamaican dancehall singer. He has been called, along with Brigadier Jerry, Yellowman and sound system partner Charlie Chaplin, one of the best Jamaican dancehall deejays of the 1980s. [1]
Yellowman was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in two occasions; in 1985 for King Yellowman, and in 1998 for Freedom of Speech. [17] He was the first dancehall artist to be nominated for this category. In 2018, it was announced that he would be awarded the Order of Distinction (Officer Class) by the Jamaican government. [1]
The Bogle dance is a Jamaican-born dance move invented in the 1990s which involves the moving of one’s body in a longitudinal, ocean-wave motion while at the same time raising and lowering one's arms, aiding the wave motion. The dance move was engineered and created by Gerald Levy, a reggae dancehall legend.

Dexta Daps. Louis Anthony Grandison (born 12 January 1986), known by his stage name Dexta Daps, Dappa Don or Dexta, is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae performer. Grandison's career began in 2012 with the release of his first two singles "Save Me Jah" and "May You Be". [1]
