The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve is the continuation/terminal sensory branch of the sural nerve, and is ultimately derived from the 1st sacral nerve (S1). It passes distally along the lateral part of the dorsum of foot .
The intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve divides into four dorsal digital branches, which supply the medial and lateral sides of the third and fourth, and of the fourth and fifth toes. The lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve from the sural nerve turns into a dorsal digital nerve and supplies the lateral side of the fifth toe.
Lower limb. Foot. Cutaneous innervation of the lower limbs is the nerve supply to areas of the skin of the lower limbs (including the feet) which are supplied by specific cutaneous nerves. Modern texts are in agreement about which areas of the skin are served by which nerves, but there are minor variations in some of the details.
The superficial fibular nerve (also known as superficial peroneal nerve) is a mixed (motor and sensory) nerve that provides motor innervation to the fibularis longus and fibularis brevis muscles, and sensory innervation to skin over the antero-lateral aspect of the leg along with the greater part of the dorsum of the foot (with the exception of the first web space, which is innervated by the ...
L5 – On the dorsum of the foot at the third metatarsophalangeal joint. S1 – On the lateral aspect of the calcaneus. S2 – At the midpoint of the popliteal fossa. S3 – Over the tuberosity of the ischium or intragluteal fold; S4 and S5 – In the perianal area, less than one cm lateral to the mucocutaneous zone
Close to the ankle joint, the deep fibular nerve terminates by dividing into medial and lateral terminal branches. [1]Medial terminal branch: This nerve accompanies the dorsalis pedis artery along the dorsum of the foot, and, at the first interosseous space, divides into two dorsal digital nerves which supply the adjacent sides of the great and second toes, [1] communicating with the medial ...
Lateral condyle and superior half of lateral surface of tibia and interosseous membrane: Medial and inferior surfaces of medial cuneiform and base of 1st metatarsal: Deep fibular (peroneal) nerve (L4, L5) Dorsiflexes ankle and inverts foot Extensor hallucis longus: Middle part of anterior surface of fibula and interosseous membrane
Through its two terminal branches, the intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve provides sensory innervation to the contiguous dorsal aspects of the 3rd and 4th toes, and of the 4th and 5th toes. [citation needed] It also provides innervation to the skin of the lateral side of the foot and ankle. [citation needed]
