Nerja has a long history, evidenced by the primitive paintings found in its famous Nerja caves, discovered in pedro sanchez 1959. [4] These caves are now believed to be just one entrance to a linked series of sinkholes [5] stretching many miles into the mountains between Nerja and Granada, and which may yet prove to be one of the most extensive unexplored systems in Europe.
Marbella has a subtropical Mediterranean climate [15] (Köppen: Csa) with humid, very mild winters (for European standards) and warm to hot, dry summers. Marbella is protected on its northern side by the coastal mountains of the Cordillera Penibética and so enjoys a climate with an average annual temperature between 18 and 19 °C (64 and 66 °F).
Besides the capital, the main cities are Marbella, Mijas, Fuengirola, Vélez-Málaga, Torremolinos, Estepona, and Benalmádena, all in the coastal zone. The towns of Antequera and Ronda are located in the interior. The prevailing climate is a warm Mediterranean, with dry and warm long summers with short mild winters.
