Weymouth Landing is the border between Weymouth and Braintree and is where the Fore River splits into tributaries. Weymouth is bordered on the north by Hingham Bay and Boston Harbor. Weymouth's territory includes Grape Island, Slate Island, and Sheep Island, all part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.
The lime was used for plaster in colonial times. In the 1800s the quarry was flooded and closed when workers accidentally hit an underground water source. In 1937 a Somerville company pumped out the quarry and briefly tried to mine the uncommonly hard limestone found at the site before quickly ceasing operations.

Though officially a reserve base, NAS South Weymouth hosted an unusual regular Navy unit between 1953 and 1961.
