Carlisle United Football Club (/ k ɑːr ˈ l aɪ l / kar-LYLE, locally / ˈ k ɑːr l aɪ l / KAR-lyle) is a professional association football club based in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. The team competes in EFL League Two, the fourth level of the English football league system. They have played their home games at Brunton Park since 1909.
The 2024–25 season is the 120th season in the history of Carlisle United Football Club and their first season back in League Two since the 2022–23 season following relegation from League One in the previous season. In addition to the domestic league, the club are also participating in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and the 2024–25 EFL Trophy.
Carlisle United thus became the first club to compete in all top five tiers of the English football league system (Oxford United, Luton Town, Grimsby Town and Leyton Orient have since followed). In 2004–05, Carlisle returned to the Football League at the first time of asking by winning the Conference National promotion playoffs.
Carlisle United have had over 40 managers since the club was founded in 1904. Amongst others they include Bill Shankly, a former United player who went on to make Liverpool Football League champions three times, Alan Ashman, who took Carlisle to the top of The Football League and Michael Knighton who in 1997 took over the management role while he was chairman.

Brunton Park is a football stadium and the home of Carlisle United.It is situated in the city of Carlisle and has a certified capacity of 17,949. The ground opened in 1909. Brunton Park's grandstand burned down in 1953 and the stadium flooded completely in 2005 and again in 2
