The Holden Monaro (/ m ə ˈ n ɑː r oʊ / Mon-AH-ro) is a car that was manufactured by General Motors' Australian division Holden.It has a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and was produced with a two-door coupé body from 1968 to 1975 and again from 2001 to 2006 and with a 4-door sedan body from 1973 to 1977.
Holden HT Belmont, Kingswood and Premier models were introduced in May 1969, [1] replacing their Holden HK series equivalents which had been in production since 1968. [2] HT Brougham and Monaro models followed in June 1969. Noticeable changes from the HK series included new grilles, new taillights, flatter rear flanks and a wider back window. [3]
A special build 327 was built for GMH for the final run of the HK GTS327 by the Canadian McKinnon Industries. It was a lower compression version of the 1968 engine first used on the HK GTS327, and was dressed as a 1969 engine sporting all 1969 parts. The 327 was replaced in the mid-1969 HT Monaro by the 350 L48 developing 300 hp (224 kW).
It was equipped with the 307 cubic inch V8 engine as standard. The Monaro models were 2-door coupes, the first such vehicles to be offered by Holden and the Monaro GTS 327 featured a 327 cu in (5.4 L) Chevrolet V8 engine which was not available in any other Holden model but was available in the larger GMH assembled Chevrolet Impala and Pontiac ...
The HT was a minor revision over the HK, but with the replacement of the GTS327 by the GTS350. Also with the HT came the brand new Holden V8 engine, replacing the previous 305 and 307 Chevrolet items. The 308 cubic-inch Holden V8 was initially only available in the HT Brougham, as GMH still needed to liquidate stock of the smaller American V8s.
