The Astor Place Theatre is an off-Broadway house at 434 Lafayette Street in the NoHo section of Manhattan, New York City. The theater is located in the historic Colonnade Row, originally constructed in 1831 as a series of nine connected buildings, of which only four remain. Bruce Mailman bought the building in 1965. [1]
In 1991, Wink, Stanton, and Goldman opened Blue Man Group: Tubes at the Astor Place Theater. [4] They expected the early shows would appeal only to the downtown scene, but soon they were adding performances and playing to sold-out crowds.

The current 299-seat Off-Broadway Astor Place Theatre, has been located in the landmark Colonnade Row on Lafayette Street, half a block south, since 1969. It was known for premiering works by downtown playwrights like Sam Shepard, but since 1991 has been the home of Blue Man Group, which now owns the theatre.
