Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad No. 643 is the sole survivor of the class H-1 2-10-4 "Texas type" steam locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1944 for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, primarily used for hauling heavy mainline freight trains in Pennsylvania and Ohio, until retirement in 1952.

The Pyle-National Company, which produced lights for steam locomotives and other heavy machinery, built the plant in 1916. The company was founded in 1897 by George C. Pyle, an inventor who patented several designs for locomotive headlights, and businessman Royal C. Vilas.
The XA was sent back to Baldwin in 1920 and was rebuilt as two locomotives, a 2-8-8-0, and a 2-8-2. Unlike their predecessor which lasted only a few years in service, these two locomotives remained in service until 1953. However, neither of the two locomotives were preserved.
