Its main hospital is Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, a public hospital located in the town. and is part of the Louth Meath Hospital Group. Facilities include a 24-hour emergency department for the populations of County Louth, County Meath and the North-East of Ireland. The hospital provides 340 beds, of which 30 are reserved for acute day cases. [56]
The hospital provides 318 beds, of which 217 are in-patient beds, 25 are designated for day cases, 25 for emergency department patients, and 2 for labour ward admissions, while a further 49 are reserved for psychiatric patients.
The hospital has its origins in a building in the Crescent, which is now occupied by Dundalk Grammar School, and opened as the Louth Infirmary in 1834. [3] The aging infirmary was replaced by a new facility in Dublin Road which was built at a cost of €500,000 and was officially opened on 3 July 1959. [ 4 ]
