St. Paul's parish was founded as St. Jude's on October 27, 1834. [ 1 ] The church was located on the southwest corner of Main and Monroe Streets. [ 2 ][ 1 ] The cornerstone was laid by Bishop Philander Chase in 1849. [ 1 ] The parish's name was changed to St. Paul in 1848. The building was finished and dedicated on September 15, 1850.
