Long Point State Park – Thousand Islands is a 23-acre (0.093 km 2) state park located at the northeast tip of Point Peninsula on Lake Ontario's Chaumont Bay. The park is located in the Town of Lyme in Jefferson County, New York. The park was established by New York State in 1913 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation. [3]
The park was used by the Girl Scouts and other youth organizations for camping and outdoor activities until financial pressures forced the camp's closure in the late 1990s. [3] In 1999, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation purchased the property with plans to develop a New York state park at the site. [2]
The park includes 274 campsites, as well as a campground store. Despite its name, swimming is not allowed at the park. [ 1 ] The park installed the 18-hole "Shore Winds Disc Golf Course" in 2009, [ 1 ] which starts near the back of the park and includes several holes playing along the Lake Ontario shoreline.
