McKinney is a city in and the county seat of Collin County, Texas, United States. [6] It is Collin County's third-largest city, after Plano and Frisco . A suburb of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex , McKinney is about 32 miles (51 km) north of Dallas .
Originally planned as a large community of luxury homes and facilities, building began on the 6000-acre site in the mid-1980s. The development faced problems in 1988 when Gibraltar Savings Association, the savings and loan institution backing it for an estimated $300 million (and 17% owned by the family of the project's developer) became insolvent.

Thomas O'Connor (c. 1819 – October 16, 1887) was an Irish rancher and landowner from County Wexford, Ireland whose estate was reportedly the largest individual land and cattle holding in Texas at the time of his death.

Baines began to practice law in Plano, Texas, in 1870, later moving to nearby McKinney the same year. Prior to his appointment as Secretary of State by John Ireland in 1883, Baines was the publisher, [6] editor, and proprietor of the McKinney Advocate. [3] He was re–appointed to the Secretaryship after Ireland's second inauguration. [7]
