Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) initiative that encourages private industry and federal agencies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses through hazard prevention and control, worksite analysis, training; and cooperation between management and workers.
The OSHA Training Institute, which trains government and private sector health and safety personnel, began in 1972. [38] In 1978, the agency began a grant-making program, now called the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program, to train workers and employers in identifying and reducing workplace hazards. [38]
Virtual reality is a novel tool to deliver safety training in many fields. Some applications have been developed and tested especially for fire and construction safety training. [173] [174] Preliminary findings seem to support that virtual reality is more effective than traditional training in knowledge retention. [175]
Induction training should, according to TPI-theory, include development of theoretical and practical skills, but also meet interaction needs that exist among the new employees. [1] An Induction Programme can also include the safety training delivered to contractors before they are permitted to enter a site or begin their work.
