The Vidette Times is a local newspaper in Porter County, Indiana. [1] It began in 1842 as an occasional, the Republican. In 1866 it came under new ownership as The Porter County Vidette. In 1871, a rival, The Valparaiso Democratic Messenger emerged. In the 1920s, The Vidette and The Messenger merged to form The Vidette-Messenger.
The Valparaiso Vidette Messenger [2] and the Rushville Republican published stories on The Pilot News ' 100th birthday on July 31, 1951, detailing how it was one of only twelve daily newspapers in Indiana when it was first established. [3] [4] The Pilot was founded in 1851 by John Q. Howell. [5]

Earl Fredrick Landgrebe was born on January 21, 1916, in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Benna Marie Broderman and Edward William Landgrebe, a grocery store owner who later served as Porter County's assessor.
