Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions (formerly the Aurora Casket Company) is one of the largest manufacturers of caskets and funerary urns in the United States, selling over 38% of the country's caskets as of 2005. The Aurora, Indiana–based company is a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based Matthews International.
It was a part of the Monroe School District, known prior to July 1, 1978 as the New Monroe school district, until it merged with the Prairie City district into PCM on July 1, 1991. [12] Monroe is home to Monroe Elementary School and PCM Community High School while the middle school is in Prairie City. [13]
Monroe Township covers an area of 35.86 square miles (92.88 km 2) and contains one incorporated settlement, Aplington. According to the USGS, it contains five cemeteries: Bethel Reform, Monroe Township, Oak Hill, Pleasant View and Saint Patricks Catholic.

Monroe County is a county located in the south central part of the U.S. state of Iowa. In the early 20th century, it was a center of bituminous coal mining and in 1910 had a population of more than 25,000. As mining declined, people moved elsewhere for work. In the 2020 census, the population was 7,577. [1] The county seat is Albia. [2]
Monroe Township was organized in 1846. [3] In the following decades two post offices, Danforth and Gregg, were established [4]. During the latter half of the 19th century, the township was heavily settled by Czech immigrants.
