The Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), founded in 1978, is an international organization of evangelical Christian schools. Its headquarters are in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It offers tiers of oversight, from school accreditation to teacher certificates. [2] Schools and even homeschoolers can also join as members. [3]
CCCS' own high school program remained closed for the next 5 years. [8] In 2015, the school formally separated from the Assembly of God church into its own nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and formed its own school board. [10] It was at this time that the school's name was changed from CCCS to High Desert Christian Academy (HDCA). [11]
The first school in Colorado Springs was organized by Mary Mellen "Queen" Palmer, wife of city founder William Jackson Palmer, in late 1871. Classes were first held in a home on the northeast corner of Cascade Avenue and Bijou Street, rented by Mrs. Palmer for the school. [2] School District 11 was established in August 1872.
The high school was founded in 1986 in rented space at Christ Community Church, with 23 9th- and 10th-grade students and seven faculty members. It moved to the El Camino Baptist Church campus on East Speedway Boulevard in 1991 as its enrollment approached 100.
