Canned Heat is an American blues rock band founded by Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson and Bob "The Bear" Hite in 1965. The band's classic line-up consisted of Wilson on slide guitar, vocals and harmonica, Hite on vocals and harmonica, Henry "The Sunflower" Vestine on lead guitar, Larry "The Mole" Taylor on bass and Adolfo "Fito" de la Parra on drums.
He died, age 46, on November 23, 2008, at a friend's home in Long Beach, California; the cause was an apparent drug overdose. Other more recent deaths of band members included Hite's brother, bassist Richard Hite, who died at age 50 on September 22, 2001, due to complications from cancer.
Hite was named chief on a permanent basis on December 6, 2012. [4] Hite was the person who notified then-Baltimore mayor William Donald Schaefer of the Baltimore Colts' move to Indianapolis during the early hours of March 29, 1984. [5] At the time, Hite was a member of Schaefer's protective detail.

He had introduced Al Wilson, whom he knew from Boston, to Vestine and Bob and Richard Hite. Wilson, Vestine and the Hite brothers formed a jug band that rehearsed at Don Brown's Jazz Man record Shop. Bob Hite and Alan Wilson started Canned Heat with Kenny Edwards as a second guitarist, but Vestine was asked to join.
