St. Boniface Indian School was a Roman Catholic American Indian School in Banning, California. It belonged to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles . [ 1 ] It opened in 1890, providing vocational education to Cahuilla , Serrano , Luiseño , Kumeyaay , and other American Indians.
These buildings were added to the National Register on November 17, 1982 as, "St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, School, Rectory, and Convent of the Sister of the Precious Blood". [2] The records of St. Boniface, St. Nicholas and Ss. Peter & Paul were microfilmed by the Bowling Green State University Center for Archival Collections in 2001. [3]
The Sisters of the Living Word started staffing the school in 1975. In 1986 the Franciscan Friars left the parish and were replaced by priests from the diocese. The schools from St. Boniface, St. Joseph, and the Cathedral of the Epiphany consolidated in 1987 to form Holy Family School. Subsequently, the three parishes have been clustered as well.
