Trams in Vienna (German: Wiener Straßenbahn, in everyday speech also Bim or Tramway) are a vital part of the public transport system in Vienna, capital city of Austria. In operation since 1865, with the completion of a 2 km (1.2 mi) route to industrial estates near Simmering , it reached its maximum extent of 292 km (181.4 mi) in 1942.
Electrified at the city's expense, the trams were integrated into the transport network in 1925. Until construction of the U-Bahn, the trams were the primary mode of public transport in Vienna. After 1945, numerous tram lines were abandoned because of increasing use of private cars or converted to bus routes because of economic unviability.

The Badner Bahn or Wiener Lokalbahn is a tram-train service in the metropolitan area of Vienna. It runs for 30.4 kilometres (18.9 mi) between Vienna and Baden, and is operated by the Wiener Lokalbahnen Aktiengesellschaft.
Vienna counts a system of S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and a large tramway network (also see Transport in Vienna). Graz counts a regional S-Bahn, an extended tramway network and a funicular. Linz counts a regional S-Bahn and a tramway network including the Pöstlingbergbahn. Salzburg counts a regional S-Bahn (with some services to Germany) and a funicular. [5]

In 1925, they formed the Viennese Electric Light Rail, abbreviated W.E.St. After comparatively rapid electrification and numerous smaller adaptations, it gradually went into operation between 3 June 1925 and 20 October 1925.
