Hello, I bought a shower kit. It comes with the base, walls, and door. I would like to install this shower in my basement utility/laundry room. The drainage down there is a four inch hole in the floor. There is a utility sink over it, with a drain pipe that just drops water into this drain. Next to the utility sink is the washer/dryer.

The pipe size on the floor drain will be too small to drain the shower, and you'll probably never get it to vent/drain correctly either. Don't be intimidated by busting out a little concrete. This isn't difficult, and is definately something that a DIYer can tackle. Just rent a tool to cut or break the concrete and you're good to go.

I'm in the process of putting a 33"x33" shower stall in the basement. Currently I have framed the walls and covered them with green board, and I have been looking more and more at this Kerdi system. My plan is to make a mud bed right on top of the existing concrete, and cover everything with the Kerdi fabric, and slope it all to drain properly.

You can always overlay a piece of OSB with a correctly positioned 2 1/2" hole to go over the pipe and offer support for the packed pan, assuming that is what he is doing.

It has a cement shower pan, right on the cement floor of the basement. It is 27" x 27". I checked the local building code and they said minimum size needs to be 30" x 30". No problem, as the surrounding rooms are not finished and I have no problem relocating a wall or two to accommodate a larger shower. The shower drain is not in the middle of ...
