Docklands Stadium, known by naming rights sponsorship as Marvel Stadium, is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment stadium in the suburb of Docklands in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Construction started in October 1997 and was completed in 2000 at a cost of A$ 460 million ($930 million in 2023 terms [ 5 ] ).
In 2002, telecommunications company Telstra acquired the naming rights, resulting in the stadium being known as Telstra Stadium. On 12 December 2007 it was announced by the Stadium Australia Group (SAG) that the stadium's name was to be changed to ANZ Stadium after concluding a deal with ANZ Bank worth around A$31.5 million over seven years. In July 2011, the City of Manchester Stadium was renamed the Etihad Stadium which would help fund the redevelopment. [56] The first developments include a new state-of-the-art training complex for Manchester City and the local community is to be built nearby the Etihad Stadium with a centrepiece bridge linking the complex to the stadium. The Premier League team’s venue was renamed Etihad Stadium in July 2011. NYCFC president Brad Sims said revenue from the deal will go to the MLS team and not the parent company or English club, which is under investigation by the Premier League for alleged violations of financial fair play rules.
