The New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway (reporting mark NYSW), also referred to as the Susie-Q or the Susquehanna, and formerly referred to as the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad, is an American Class II freight railway that operates over 400 miles (640 km) of trackage in the states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The New York, Susquehanna and Western was one of four major railroads hauling anthracite coal from the Northern coalfield of Pennsylvania to the tidewater at New York City. The others were the Erie, the Central Railroad of New Jersey, and the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western.
The NJ Midland and other railroads were reorganized as the NYS&W in 1881. The NYS&W ran passenger service until June 30, 1966. So the NYS&W bought VALE's locomotive in late 1991, renumbered it as 142, and used it pull mainline excursion trains throughout New Jersey and New York state. Since 2003, the locomotive has been owned by the NYS&W Technical and Historical Society, and since 2004, it has been operated by the Belvidere and Delaware River Railway (Bel-Del).
