Habersham County is a county in the Northeast region of the U.S. state of Georgia.As of the 2020 census, the population was 46,031. [1] The county seat is Clarkesville. [2] The county was created on December 15, 1818, and named for Colonel Joseph Habersham of the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War.
Demorest (/ ˈ d ɛ m ə r ɪ s t / DEM-ə-rist) is a city in Habersham County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,022 at the 2020 census, up from 1,823 at the 2010 census, [5] and 1,465 at the 2000 census. It is the home of Piedmont University.
Iron was minded in the near by City of Demorest and carried to the foundry that was erected by the Habersham Iron Works and Manufacturing Co,. Jarvis Van Buren, a cousin of President Martin Van Buren and a pioneer eastern railroad man, arrived in 1838 to operate the plant for its stockholders who included John C. Calhoun.
